This past week I had the pleasure of photographing volunteer recognition dinner of the Badger Association for the Blind. It was a pleasurable evening–from the unique items in the silent auction, to the friendliness of every person I spoke with, to the keynote address by visually-impaired American Idol finalist Scott MacIntyre.
The nature of assignments like this require that the photographer is mostly a silent documentarian of the event, not much of a participant. In this case though, the assignment turned out differently as I had unplanned encounters with a few previous
clients and friends who were present as supporters of the Association! Among them were Shawn Perrin, of Vision First; Patti Genko, local radio personality; and Cheryl Nenn, the Milwaukee Riverkeeper. Also present at the event were Daryl Stuermer, former guitarist for the band Genesis, and at the dinner seat next to me, the son of the man who first recorded “The Chicken Dance”! An important note though, is that as nifty at the friends and clients are that I saw, the volunteers who were selected for recognition are even MORE nifty, if that’s possible!
