UPDATED: Look to Third Coast Digest for many Gallery Night photos, including a number from Story School! Here’s a few more Gallery Night Photos!
April 16, 2010 saw Story School hosting its first Gallery Night event. This event featured ONE-HUNDRED FIFTY-ONE 8×10 photographs from the 5th, 6th, and 8th grade students. The library was transformed into a gallery, showing off the students’ prints and these blogs, created to show off their works! This event was very exciting and received a fair amount of press, featuring a mention on 102.1 FM’s “Kramp and Adler” morning show, the front page of the Journal-Sentinel’s CUE section, and a very nice write-up from the THIRD COAST DIGEST. Here’s another article!
Mike Crivello Cameras produced all the prints and provided the frames too; they were a wonderful, very customer-service-oriented vendor to work with.
Principal Ewing provided a very tasty spread for guests, numerous students acted as hosts—guiding visitors into the school and to the library. The event had some very special guests from the photo-community: Peggy Morsch, Tom Fritz, Tim Abler, Brian Jacobson, and Andy Wagner.
The most significant visitor though, was Gerrie, a 1943 graduate from Story School! Her daughter, Claudine, brought her and Jerri was treated to a guided tour of the school by the prinicipal. Gerrie commented, when seeing the auditorium, “Do you see those portraits of George Washington and Abe Lincoln? I remember those–they were here when I was here!”
A lot of thanks has to be given to Arts@Large, the organization that sponsored my residency at Story School. Without A@L, this would not have been possible.
The Gallery Night event went real well and Story is hoping to do it again in the future! Thank YOU to everyone who came out to 3815 W. Kilbourn Avenue! All the students and staff were so happy to show off the 5th, 6th and 8th graders’ efforts!
