Two unrelated topics: UMOS and Sassy Cow

1.  Last week, on behalf of a location-scouting client, I had the chance to visit the dairy farms of the Sassy Cow Creamery, in Columbus, WI.  Sassy Cow is a local, two-farm milk producer.  In Milwaukee, you can find their organic and traditional milk at Outpost Natural Foods.  If your store doesn’t carry Sassy Cow, please ask them to.

On two farms, Sassy Cow keeps separate herds of cows–the organic herd and the traditional herd.  Sassy Cow was founded by the Baerwolf brothers;  James Baerwolf is who showed me the pastures of the traditional herd.
Many of you know my affection for local business and for family farmers;  I’d like to use this opportunity to encourage you to support Sassy Cow.  They make great milk and are a small business that needs your support.  I can’t say how neat it was to look at these cows and realize that they were producing the milk Rachel and I drink every week.  Very exciting!

2.  This summer I got to photograph (for the 2nd year), the annual report for UMOS/Eggert Creative.  Again, Dean Eggert and I got to meet some real nice people and see the various service efforts that UMOS is engaged in.  UMOS, as described by their website:  “…is a private, non-profit corporation established in 1965 to advocate for and provide services to Hispanic migrant and seasonal farmworkers in Wisconsin.”

I saw a job fair that UMOS sponsored and also got to see seasonal housing up in Dodge County.  Overall, it was again a very satisfying project to be a part of.  Here are a few choice pages from the annual report!
