Here’s some of what inspired that last post (Pride of Milwaukee: MILWAUKEE part 1)…
-this past Saturday, Rachel and I went to the Central Library for a free “Learn Your House History” workshop. Milwaukee’s swell librarians showed us the various resources that the library has for doing personal research. I’ve written previously about how great our library is; this experience only confirmed what a great resource we have here.
-later that day I went over to Riverwest to peek in at the Milwaukee Zine Fest. A variety of table, topics, people, and stories were present. It was hosted at the Polish Falcon, a fixture of Riverwest. I spoke with some of the folks and was very impressed by the kindness and passion for their interests that they all demonstrated. A great “alternative” event. In the slideshow below, you’ll see Laura Gorzek and NightLight Comics featured!
-Sunday I spent time with photographer Suzzane Garr, a local photographer who will soon be going to Africa to volunteer at an orphanage there. Her other travel photographs are currently hanging at the One-Way Cafe, in Wauwatosa.
–Monday, I spent time at a rally of 200+ forward-looking people who are in strong support of high-speed rail coming to the Midwest in general and Wisconsin in particular.
-this morning I went for a jog, journeying out to the Menomonee Valley and the Hank Aaron Trail. I got to see the new pedestrian bridge and good portion of the trail extension. This extension is AMAZING–you can now bike/jog/walk from 6th St. to 84th, with very little auto-traffic interfering. I went from 35th to 76th and it was great!
