In my career so far, I have gotten to photograph some neat people: semi-truck drivers all around the country, construction workers on Milwaukee’s City Hall, a father-son sculptor team, the owners of a paint-ball park and many others. Really though, one of the best assignments I’ve done so far was a monthly feature called the “Notable Reader” for M magazine.
Each month I would get an email with the story of the month’s feature. The person, their occupation, and background were always different, but what they shared was an appetite for reading. Doing this assignment drove home the idea that I take as truth: if you enjoy reading, you have curiosity, and if you have curiosity, you are very likely to be quite interesting. I look back at the assignment with great fondness and sure wish I could revisit that topic someday.
