This past week’s #MKElikemind meeting featured a presentation by Andy Wright, co-founder of Meet_Meme, on the topic of connections/conversations/conversions. Many of the things he shared were applicable to marketing via social media, but also were applicable to relationships in general. Here are my notes from the discussion:
+in order to encourage engagement, you need to manage the context/framework of the interaction
+in any first meeting, you need to start the engagement not by being self-centric, but by reaching out to learn about the person you’re interacting with
+”I believe in the power of fewer, deeper relationships.”
+”trust is currency in a relationship.”
+Context begets Content begets Conversation begets Conversion
+Content quality is more important than Content quantity
+relationships MUST be sincere
+to have successful relationships, there needs to be a connection point that empowers the “other”. People engage when they feel they are being allowed to “shine”, when they are given the floor, and their input is recognized and valued.
+Much of Andy’s presentation reminded me of a few important lessons I’ve learned in the past:
: Interesting people are interested in people. (basically a Dale Carnegie paraphrase)
: “The deepest craving of human nature is the need to be appreciated- William James
As always, there were many swell people in attendance at MKElikemind (see here for past blogs) including:
T* Phil Gerb
T* Russ Dean
Andy’s presentation was put together on a neat app called Prezi.
p.s.–at the end of this LikeMind session, it was asked if anyone wanted to be the June presenter…after a few tense seconds of no one speaking up, I did. On June 17, I will be the presenter at MKElikemind…details to follow! 🙂
