Artists Working in Education, known moreso as A.W.E., is about to send out their excellent Truck Studio teams to the Milwaukee County Parks. For 6 weeks, these folks will be present in many of the parks doing FREE arts programming for children. Find the truck-schedule HERE.
From 2001-2010, I served on the board of directors of A.W.E. I recently completed an artist-in-residency at a Milwaukee high-school for A.W.E., making zines with the students.
For the photo-geeks out there, I thought it would be neat to see the lighting set-up on this portrait. I stood on the chair at left. We intentionally parked the trucks on this small hill to get a better view of them. There are two Profoto strobes, powered up with an Acute 600e power-pack, that pack getting juice from an Innovatronix power-source. A Sekonic flash-meter helped me determine the proper exposure and the sand-bags made sure my lights weren’t going anywhere. A Nikkor 18mm/f2.8 lens on a D200 camera body ensured that I had a wide enough angle-of-view to get everyone in!
