An Analog Photo Seminar (Large Format, in particular)
Please RSVP, if you plan to attend.
This one-day seminar is being organized by me and hosted by the Photo-Department of Cardinal Stritch University. Even though digital is the main word in photography nowadays, there are still a number of photographers who see value in the traditional analog practices of photography, particularly in large-format photography.
This seminar will feature presentations and demos by WI film-based fine-art photographers. Nick Olson, Dr. Yong-ran Zhu and Mark Brautigam will present on their experiences in large-format photography. Over the lunch-break, I will talk briefly about the experience of working with Leica rangefinder cameras and his 4×5 experience.
Each photographer will give a 30-40 minute presentation of their work, followed by a short Q&A session. The afternoon will be spent with each photographer giving a hands-on demonstration of their working methods. The tentative schedule is as follows:
Cost for this workshop is:
$20/person before September 30, pay via PayPal or personal check. $25/person after September 30.
$15/student before September 30, pay via PayPal or personal check. $20/student after September 30.
Location: Cardinal Stritch is at 6801 N. Yates Rd., Milwaukee, WI 53217. The campus is just off of Port Washington Road, about a half-mile south of Good Hope Road. The Communications-Fine Arts Building is on the NW side of the campus, with the main entrance on the east side of the building.
To Register: email Troy at troyfreund @ gmail.com (without the spaces, of course)
Here are some photos from past workshops I’ve organized!
Here is some info about a few other photo-education ops coming up!

08-04-11: The Lab @ Tom Fritz Studios has made a generous donation to the people who attend this workshop! All participants and presenters will receive a coupon for 25% off their next purchase at The Lab @ Tom Fritz Studios. There is no limit to the value of the coupon, although the coupon will have to be redeemed by the end of October 2011.
Tom Fritz is a well-known commercial photographer in Milwaukee and also runs the last truly “professional” lab in town. He offers C-41, E-6, and B+W film processing, as well as scanning, printing, and other services. This is a very swell offer from him and his staff!
09-23-11: Presenter Mark Brautigam just got a nice write-up at JS Online about his body of work, “On Wisconsin.”
