Horizon Home Care and Hospice was the host of this morning’s Local First Milwaukee “Third Thursday” networking event. Horizon welcomed us at their Grief Resource Center – a one-of-a-kind free and open to the public resource center for people working through a grief situation. As always, a number of community-supporting business members showed up to connect, re-connect, and learn about another member – in this case, Horizon! It was really neat to hear the Horizon staff members talk about their work – you can tell this is a vocation for these people. It was also exciting to hear CEO Mary Haynor talk about how much they try to work “buying local” into all their purchasing decisions for the hospice. Very, very cool!
Laacke and Joys mentioned their increasing inventory of patio furniture and their rental opportunities for kayaks, paddleboards and other outdoor activity gear.
Ron, “the Doctor”, of A-1 Light Doctor, was clear in his passion about good lighting. The neatest part of his business is going to people’s home to help decided what sort of light fixtures to install – very cool idea!
Stone Creek Coffee is continuing the renovations on their building at 5th and St. Paul – hoping to be completed by August.
Mark the Occasion is excited for a revamping of her website – – check it out soon!
Community Shares impressed with me with the variety of non-profits they serve – – over 30 orgs devoted to social justice, animal welfare, and environmental issues.
Present were folks from A-1 Light Doctor, Laacke and Joys, Stone Creek Coffee, Action Graphics, Community Shares, Horizon, Mark the Occasion, and myself – Troy Freund Photography!
A number of these members are also on Twitter; see them all HERE!
