As always, lots of great shows coming up for this weekend…here’s my photography-biased choices for shows to try and check out on April 20/21! All receptions are on April 20, unless otherwise noted.
If there’s a great photo-show I missed, please email me the details and I’ll add it to the list, or just leave the details in the comment section!
–COPA will be hosting their Members’ Show, featuring 113 different photographers! Included will be Tim Abler (my instructor), Stephanie Bartz, Suzanne Garr, Tim Holte, Jessica Zalewski, and many more! Reception from 5-9p.
–BS @ PS: A Photo Book Show at The Portrait Gallery. I will have a piece in this show of self-published photo-books. Shana McCaw and Brent Budsberg also have a book in this show! There will be around 70 different photo-books on display. This unique show is the brain-child of Erik Ljung and shouldn’t be missed! Reception 6-9p.
-Senior BFA Exhibit at Cardinal Stritch University will be featuring a few photography majors and a few design majors. As this is my alma mater, I’ll always suggest that people venture up to Fox Point and check it out! Reception from 5-8p at the Northwestern Mutual Life Art Gallery!
-Charles Allis Art Museum has their ongoing “Forward 2012: A Survey of Wisconsin Art Now!” going on. If you haven’t been to this show yet, then get over to Milwaukee’s Museum Mile and check it out! Reception 5-9p.
-MIAD 2012 Senior Exhibition features the work of MIAD’s graduating students, but more importantly features the work of Andrea Bartley, a talented young woman showing of some fab large-format photos. Reception 5-9p.
–Morning Glory Gallery at the Marcus Center is showing off the unique and fun stuffed animals made by Christina Ward. Ms. Ward makes some great animals – I have one of her chupacabras on my bookshelf! Gallery is open noon-9 on Friday; the artist will be present that evening.
-Splash Studio: Grand Opening. hmm…what happens when you combine an art studio with a bar? I don’t know, but you can find out here. Open 11a-10p
–The Waxwing, in Shorewood. Talk about “bang for your buck” – this gallery has got the works of EIGHTY different artists! Don’t just visit the Third Ward tonight – get up to Shorewood too! Worth noting is that The Waxwing is also a member of Local First Milwaukee!
-Not a gallery opening, but still something you should be aware of: Milwaukee Chamber Theatre is in the second week of “Bus Stop” and I really think you should check this show out. Sounds quite fun. I’ll be attending on Wednesday, April 18, for their “Tweet Seats” night, and will be live-tweeting the performance. Follow my tweets at MidwestPhoto!
