This morning Bowell Books, on Downer Avenue, hosted the monthly “Third Thursday” meet-up of Local First Milwaukee. As always, it was well-attended and I again got to know more about some of our great small, local businesses! There were many people present, representing a number of different businesses –
Boswell Books – is a great, well-stocked independent bookstore. Besides being a great host, providing all the attendees with coffee and sweets, Boswell also offered us picks off three carts of advance copy books! What great generosity! I’m a big fan of Boswell and you can often find me talking them up at Troy’s Book Club. 🙂
Stephanie Bartz Photography – is continuing to make great images and is busy promoting her new, self-published photo-book – “For the Love of Dogs“.
Brew City Boxes – is a very new business with a very neat concept. Instead of buying cardboard boxes for moving or other uses, rent re-usable plastic bins! Save money, minimize the trash you create and the clutter you might make. I hope he has great success here in Milwaukee.
Address a Mess – is another new business in town. Address a Mess is an organizational business – its proprietor will help you get organize and whittle down those extraneous possessions you’ve been looking to get rid of. Her ideal target market is older adults who might be moving from a house to condo or assisted living facility. You can contact Dorothy at 414-334-1407.
Bleidorn, CPA – continues to provide great service and tips to his tax and investment clients.
Lakefront Brewery – continues to make great beers, like my favorite: Wheat Monkey! Did you know they also make a gluten-free beer?
Bolzano Artisan Meats – continues to make truly great pork salamis. They described it this way: “you know how good a fresh tomato from your garden tastes – how it’s taken a while to grow, and tastes better because of that? Well, that’s what our pork salami is like.” And trust me, he’s right – it IS good salami.
Mark the Occasion Designs – continues to make great decorative designs for weddings and special occasions.
Outpost Natural Foods Co-op – continues providing great service and food to the community.
P & N Promototions – need embroidered promotional items? Here’s your go-to source!
My Radiant Skin – Ana provides skin care treatments for women and men! Ask about her discount for first-time clients!
Creative Employment Opportunities – CEO-MKE has been helping people with disabilities to find meaningful employment for 20 years now!
Good Harvest Market – providing healthy food on the west side of metro-Milwaukee.
WI Women’s Business Initiative Corporation – helping small businesses to get started, including a few Local First members!
Anodyne Coffee – is a small, family-owned coffee roaster in Bay View. They have one cafe and do lots of wholesale business. I’ve known them for years and even shot the founder’s wedding!
Treat Bake Shop – is another new business in town -spiced pecans. Nothing else needs to be said.
Revolution Natural Running – is a walking/running store that doesn’t just sell shoes. They provide consultations too, and work with their customers to get them “closer to the surface” they’re running on. Very neat concept for a running/walking store!
WI Public Radio – Public Radio is always my source for great programs and news. Check ’em out!
