Milwaukee has a lot of things to brag about – it’s a Fair Trade City and a Well City; it’s home to Growing Power, the future Global Water Center and the Milwaukee Film Festival – whether it’s in the arts or technology, Milwaukee has a lot to be proud of. I recently photographed an event that highlights one of Milwaukee’s other neat initiatives -the MKE Photo Laureate – as sponsored by the Milwaukee Public Library and the Friends of the MPL. Did you know that MKE has its own “poet laureate” – and this year it has TWO of them!
This year, Jim Chapson and Jeff Poniewaz were both named as Poet Laureate of Milwaukee. This means that each poet will be participating in public readings of their work over the course of the next year, spreading the love of language in and around Milwaukee.
