Wisconsin native to give presentation about multimedia work in the international humanitarian aid industry

Milwaukee, WI (August 8, 2013) Wisconsin native and current Kenya resident Colin Crowley will be giving a multimedia presentation entitled “Disaster Passport” about his work as a traveling photographer and video producer for the international humanitarian aid organization Save the Children UK on August 8th at 7:30 pm at the Schroeder Auditorium of Cardinal Stritch University.

Crowley, who grew up in Beloit and earned a degree in French and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire in 2002, has spent the past eight years as a professional photographer and video producer specializing in visual documentary projects for international charities and humanitarian aid organizations in countries ranging from Afghanistan to Colombia.

From 2008 to 2011, Crowley worked as a traveling multimedia producer on Save the Children UK’s global emergency response team, covering humanitarian crises across the world including the Haiti earthquake and Pakistan floods in 2010, various food crises in East and West Africa, and armed conflicts in countries such as the Ivory Coast and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He currently works as a Regional Communications Producer for Save the Children UK based in Nairobi, Kenya and his work covers the region of East Africa.

In his “Disaster Passport” presentation on August 8th, Crowley will talk about how he went from being a Wisconsin teenager developing black and white film in his basement darkroom to becoming a world-traveling digital multimedia producer. He will also be sharing stories, photographs, and short films from his work around the world. The presentation will be followed by a Q and A and an informal reception at the Milwaukee Press Club’s “Newsroom Pub” at 137 E. Wells St., Milwaukee.

The “Disaster Passport” presentation is open to the public and is free of charge. There is a suggested voluntary donation to cover the cost of the venue. All additional proceeds will be donated to Save the Children.
