There’s a new way of doing yoga in Milwaukee – Aerial Yoga! Therese Bailey recently celebrated her first anniversary of Zen Zen Yoga Arts in Milwaukee’s Walker’s Point neighborhood with an afternoon open house. I stopped by, as I wanted to learn more about this type of yoga. Also, since Zen Zen is a member of Local First Milwaukee, and I’m a member of the board of directors, I wanted to congratulate Therese of behalf of LFM! I got to the studio and was surprised because before I knew it – I was up in the air!
Not everyone feels comfortable doing “regular” yoga. Maybe they don’t feel flexible enough, or don’t like being on the ground, or don’t think they are capable of doing the stretches. As I learned, aerial yoga can be an attractive alternative. Releasing your body from the bounds of the ground, allows you to stretch and strengthen your muscles in different ways. Hanging in the fabric, you can use gravity itself to help you stretch further. It’s really pretty dang neat!
Therese teaches regular yoga as well, but really, what makes her studio special is the offering of aerial yoga! If you’re looking for a new workout (and trust me, it IS a workout), you should consider visiting her studio and trying out a class. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I visited, but I’m very glad I stopped by!
(if you’re unsure about this kind of yoga, and are nervous about coming by yourself, please note that Therese offers a “BFF Happy Hour” on Friday -it’s a two-for-one deal, so you can bring a friend with you to try out the yoga hammocks!)
(also, Therese puts her studio walls to work as a gallery – you can currently see the artworks of Nigeria Riggins! To find more of her work, go to HERE. Nigeria is a graphic designer, and to see that work, go to kinubinu.com)
