Supporting and encouraging the local photo-community has always been a big part of my “mission.” I enjoy connecting people, and utilizing those connections to help folks get ahead. I’m a big fan of the “all rise together” concept – by helping others, not only does the “help-ee” get ahead, but also the helper! Anyway, I’ve been organizing photo classes, shows, and meetups for a number of years now. Take a look HERE to see my past posts on “photo-community.”
At the suggestion of a friend, I’m planning another photographers’ meet-up (the 4th now!). This time though, instead of just shop-talk and catch-up conversations, I’m inviting everyone to bring their favorite photo-book. The last time my friend and I met up, it was to look at a new book he’d just gotten – a retrospective of Garry Winnogrand! We had a great time looking at his book, and reflected on how many books we have of great photography, and how really, most photographers love collecting photo-books. This made us realize that it was time for a “Photo-Book Meetup” to bring photographers together, and to invite them to bring a favorite photo-book or two along for a swell evening of getting inspired!
So, on Nov 19, 2013, 6:30-9:00, please grab that photo-book that gets you all riled up, and come down to Gravity Connect – Gravity is at 305 N. Plankinton Ave., in the Pritzlaff Building. It is directly across the river from the Third Ward, on the S-E end of the building. There’s plenty of street-parking.
If you have your own self-published photo-book, you can bring that, too, but for sure bring the book of photos that makes you go out and press the shutter button!
p.s. – Gravity Connect is a great resource for Milwaukee’s self-employed – check out my past blog posts mentioning them HERE.
