Last night I put on my 4th comicbook-centric event of the year! This past May, on Free ComicBook Day, I put on SPOILERS (and here), in October the MKE Comicbook Meetup happened, in November a special “Chris Claremont Night” was put on, and last night’s event focused on the work and life of Robert Crumb.
Robert Crumb is a comicbook creator whose work is most associated with the “underground” comics of the 1960s-70s, though he’s been creating ever since he was a child. We watched the “Crumb” documentary and then looked at and talked about the original comic books that Rich brought to share with us! Rich Taylor is a photographer-friend of mine, and he collected all these comics back when he was living in Greenwich Village! While looking through the comics, we realized that one of the anthology issues had a chapter of “Maus” in it – before the story was completely told and as famous as it is today!
If you have any interest in comic books, or the “artist’s life” in general, I’d really suggest watching this documentary. The story of Crumb’s life – his family, brothers, relationships – is pretty intense…downright tragic. You really come to see Crumb as quite a complex person.

This event was held at Gravity, and really, I cannot thank Mike Kuharske enough for the providing the Gravity Connect space. I have had many events at Gravity Connect and he’s always been so agreeable to letting me put things on there!
