For those who have an interest in, and a passion for, comic books, the MKE Comicbook Meetup is for YOU! We’ve been meeting consistently for the past few months – see past events here – and have set the agenda for the next months!

April 22, 6:30-9:00p
Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co.
224 W. Bruce St., Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53204
Comicbooks have a pretty strong tradition of tackling issues that “real life” itself has difficulty with (think Green Arrow+Green Lantern/drugs, Swamp Thing/nuclear waste, Ex Machina/a LOT of topics, X-Men/racism). Bring your favorite 2-3 examples of comics that deal with some sort of social issue.
Tea Krulos, author of “Heroes in the Night“, will also be stopping by to talk about his “hero’s journey” while writing about the “Real-Life SuperHero Movement”.

May 3: Free ComicBook Day event: SPOILERS MKE- The Sequel: Last year’s SPOILERS event went so well that it’s back for a second year! Come out and celebrate Free ComicBook Day with this unique event – part performance, part film debut – all comics, superheroes and more!
Comicbooks are a unique art form of words and pictures working together to tell a story. In SPOILERS, you will be treated to an exhibit of original artwork from comic books, and a staged reading of scenes from comic books. This year there will also be the debut of a short documentary about comicbook collectors in Milwaukee!
If you forgot what last year’s event was like, here are the videos!

JUNE, 24, 7:00-9:00 at Anodyne Coffee, Bruce St.: Favorite Single Page/Spread/Sequence Night – this should be a fun challenge – find those individual pages/spreads/sequences – that really stand out to you! Bring 3-4 of your faves! We’re going to try and have a LCD projector and screen for this event, too, so if you can come up with e-versions of those images/pages you want to share, that’d be GREAT.

JULY 29, 7:00-9:00: Independents Day – bring your 3-4 fave books to share – as long as they were NOT produced by DC or Marvel!
++++++
Aug 26, 7:00-9:00: The Skrauss and Guilty Pleasures – those comicbooks that get pretty universal bad reviews, but YOU just LOVE. Bring a couple examples in a brown paper bag and your shamed face.
The comic-sharing will go from 7:00-8:00, then, local artist, The Skrauss, will give a short talk on his comicbook-centric art pieces! RSVP here!

Sept 30: Cull Your Collection Night – We all probably have a few issues in our collections that we just don’t “need” anymore. Well, this is your chance to move ’em out. Bring those issues you want to move out, and either swap or sell ’em – nothing priced higher than $.10/issue or $4/trade.
And, this is what makes our sale so very, very special – like last year, all $$ raised from the sale will get donated to the ComicBook Legal Defense Fund!
Also, there’s gonna be a special appearance by Jen Hubbartt of First Stage! If you dig Sherlock Holmes, the steampunk/Victorian arena of things, or theatre – make sure you attend!
++++++
OCTOBER 28: Favorite horror/Halloween-themed comics, or just that particular issue that for whatever reason gives you the heebie-jeebies!
