The 2nd annual “Cull Your Collection” Comicbook Sale happened at Anodyne Coffee on Bruce St., in late September and it was an exciting, dynamic evening full of cheap comicbooks, new friends, and even some tickets to the First Stage production of “The Baker Street Irregulars“.
This evening was very fun for a few reasons – thanks to the largest attendance we’ve ever had at a MKE Comicbook event, the sales of our culled comics raised over $200 which was donated to the ComicBook Legal Defense Fund (the CBLDF). New friends were made, current friendships were deepened, and everybody went home with new reading material!
Jennifer Hubbartt, of the First Stage Theatre, stopped by and told us about their upcoming show – “Sherlock Holmes: The Baker Street Irregulars” (based on a series of graphic-novels) (they’re even having a “Steampunk Night” on Oct 18) – and gave a door prize of two free tickets to a lucky comicbook reader. Emilo de Torre of the WI ACLU was also present and gave us bookmarks listing books that were recently talked about during Banned Books Week. It was really exciting being in a room full of people passionate about comicbooks, art, the performing arts, and civil rights! What a blast!
