The end of November saw two exciting events in the comicbook community of Milwaukee – the first-ever MKE COSPLAY 5K and the latest MKE Comicbook Meetup!
The Cosplay 5k was an attempt to bring together two interests of mine – geek culture and wellness. Though the runner-walkers’ numbers were not huge, those who did turn out had a great time. Attendees came from as far away as Watertown; for two participants, it was their first ever 5k, and for me, it was a fun time enjoying a non-competitive run through downtown! We also gathered two large boxes of donations for Community Advocates. There’s already plans to have another 5k in May 2015, to celebrate Free ComicBook Day! See photos of the run HERE.
The event benefited from having great support from
and Orphonic MultiMedia, Janviere Photos, and Pat Robinson – photographer.

This months theme for MKE Comicbook was “Favorite Milestone/Anniversary/Turning-Point Issues.” Here’s what comics people brought to share…
SKRAUSS
Cerebus 200 – Cerebus goes to Pluto and meets Dave Sim (his creator!)
Captain America 200 – which was published in time for the United States’ bicentennial, and featured art and writing by Jack Kirby!
JONY
New Mutants 50 – it was a double-size issue, and , “it’s got it all – demon dimensions, time-travels, multiple plot-threads…”
Uncanny X-men 150+200 – the redemption of Magneto
CLAIRBO
Amazing Spider-Man 543 -is an issue where Aunt May has been shot and Peter Parker is forced into a very dark, very interesting place.
Cloak and Dagger: Spider Island – notable for the great artwork by Emma Rios
Don
Moon Knight 25 – the debut of Bill Sienkieiwcz
Daredevil 181+190 – featuring the Death, and Rebirth, of Elektra
Troy
Alpha Flight 12 (and Don brought it, too) – an impressive, brutal fight issue resulting in the death of one of Alpha’s main characters!
G.I. Joe 21 – the famous “Silent Interlude” issue featuring Snake-Eyes, Scarlett, and Storm-Shadow
Cable 107 – the final issue of this series, noteworthy for the way it tried to redefine the character and take him away from standard super-hero stories.
Luke
X-Factor 71 – the first issue where Peter David took over the writing, and re-popularized the title.
Doom 2099 29 – Doom conquers the United States.
