A key aspect of my photography has always been about who I work for. Years ago, I read a book called “Making A Living While Making A Difference”, and I’ve always tried to keep my biggest takeaway from that book at the forefront of my photography. The lesson I learned from that book was that there are MANY ways to make a difference in the world, and one of those ways is by helping organizations doing important work, to do that work. So, when I self-market, I look for organizations and businesses who are making the world a better place, and who could use my skills to advance their missions!
UMOS is one of those organizations that works hard to make the world a better place. As their mission says, “UMOS is a non-profit advocacy organization that provides programs and services which improve the employment, educational, health and housing opportunities of under-served populations.”
Since 2009, I have been working with Eggert Creative, to make photos for the UMOS annual report. Each year, I learn more about the organization and the valuable work they do. Too, I get inspired. I’m reminded that a lot of work needs to be done in this world yet…and all of us are capable of making it a better place. So, working on this project also fires me up, and makes me think about how I can contribute to improving my community.
